I've uploaded a slightly tweaked (full) version of 1.2, could one or more with the disabling problem relating to device on/off please give it a try ?

It's called Apt1.2x.prc. It's at the same URL as the normal full version, but with the filename at the end of the URL changed to Apt1.2x.prc. You can install it without reset over an existing Apt.prc v1.2, as long as you've disabled Apt first using Menu->Apt->Disable.

Is this one supposed to have the Let+/menu fix? If so, it doesn't work; if not, nevermind! :u)

Will give this a try for the "disabling" issue, though…

So, from what I saw so far, APT disabled itself when I made a phone call and after the phone call I went back to "Applications", APT was disabled (that's easy to tell because I have a Kroma theme for *default*).

That's on an unlocked centro.

I saw that APT got disabled with 1.2x as I was running a few programs, I think the issue(s) persist.

It has disabled once (that I've noticed), but in a different way. The way I discover it, usually, is that when I press/hold Hrd4, my stuff doesn't come up, but rather the Hrd4 button behaves as it normally would without Apt. This time, however, when it was "disabled", and I pressed/held the Hrd4, it flashed my star menu's name, but when I released the button, it put me in the PalmOS launcher (Applications, but I use Initiate).

As I wrote this, it happened for the 2nd time, and I have know idea what triggered it, other than running programs. Nothing that I can duplicate yet.

I'm sorry, but I will only be able to test this on my friend's Treo 680 on the 24th of August, he's away on vacation… :-(

On my T|X, even though I sometimes get ADI, I just don't know of any reproducible way of getting it…

Anyway, on the T|X, I have a theory that the only thing I'm getting is stroke-trigger problems, because that's how I notice Apt not working: I do one of my strokes over Screenbutton (I have plenty of those) and it doesn't work. My guess is it's some problem with the DIA up/down state: if Apt has a wrong perception of how the DIA is set, the strokes might be recognized in a different screen position…

It still does it, and I can duplicate it. When disabled, it remains registered for hede and hapq.

There's a utility available, Treo Battery (by Handspring), that has an option to turn on the LED when the device is in REM. I've done some testing with Apt disabling, and found that Apt will disable if the device is awakened during REM. However, it will also re-enable if the device is powered off and allowed to sleep past REM.

You'll notice that the LED (orange, in my case) stays on if you start playing PocketTunes and power off the screen. If you wake the device during that time, Apt will be disabled. If you STOP or even PAUSE playing PTunes and turn the device off, you'll notice that the LED goes off almost immediately after you power off the screen (unless another app is holding it in REM). If you wake the device at that point, Apt will be enabled.

That's what I've found on my 755, anyway…

This tweak was to try and fix disabling when turning device on/off. I believe that's a different cause from the other ones.

When you get disabling during normal usage, could you try and work out what series of steps led to the problem and if it can be reproduced ?

Also, for the more advanced users, when disabling occurs, could you have a look with e.g. PalmInternals to see if Apt is still registered for 'hede' and 'hapq' notifications ?

I can confirm that when 1.2x disables it is no longer registered for 'hede' or 'hapq.' When it disables, it *only* continues to be registered for 'lazy'—the late wakeup notification.

I also see what Chastreo pointed out in the post below that Apt will *always* disable if the device is reawakened before going into full sleep, i.e., the screen goes off while you're reading and I quickly turn it back on. This always causes Apt to disable.

However, there are other circumstances where Apt continues to disable, often related to phone calls and bluetooth usage, although I've not found anything that's repeatable yet.

Also, I don't know it it's relevant, but when Apt disables and I open Apt, the "enable" box is still checked. It looks like Apt doesn't know that it's been kicked out.

Is it still the case for 1.2x that it's not registered for the notifications after sleep ? If so, that surprises me, since the change I made was to not unregister the notfications when going to sleep!

And you're sure during the not-after-sleep disabling, that the notifications are also off then ? That would be interesting.

In any case, I've written a small tool to show some diagnostics about Apt that you can run when it's disabled so I can get some info
about it's internal state, I'll put it up tomorrow with a new thread.

I just had Apt disable itself while my device was definitely in full sleep. Palm Internals confirms that Apt was not registered for anything except the 'lazy' notification. I wish I could point out a pattern here for you. Look forward to downloading the diagnostic tool …

In case it helps, I did have a problem with APT disabling itself on my 680 periodically, quite a while ago.

It does not do it now, and I can't remember after what "event" it happened, but I do remember this:
It would automatically re-enable itself once the Treo had gone into full Sleep, not just REM Sleep.

Out of interest, when the 680 is plugged into the hotsync lead it trickle charges the battery. While it is charging it remains in REM Sleep, which in the above case would men that APT would stay disabled.

I'm using 1.2(full). I'll try and see if I can make it disable itself again, to try and help track this down :-)

REM Sleep.

I don't know if it's only a Treo thing or all Palm OS units, but when you turn off a Treo it goes into REM Sleep for about 1 second.
It should then go into Sleep, and remain in Sleep until it gets a Wake command.

If you have a background app running that shuts off the screen, like Pocket Tunes , Satnav, etc,
it will turn the Treo off into REM Sleep and hold it there.

In REM Sleep the power drain can be quite high.
In Sleep the power drain should be next to nothing.

A lot of battery life problems with the Treo's are caused by 3rd party apps holding the unit in REM Sleep.

Power Hero from Hobbyist has a handy Log file that shows you the previous Sleep state of your unit.

I am also getting unattributable instances of Apt being disabled, it just happened & I did a soft reset & all seems fine now, right after the reset, & since I can't trace it to anything specific… I will leave it as is, & I am using the original release of 1.2….

Help! I just experienced an Apt auto-disable that I couldn't write off to anything else & tried to go to the usual place to d/l the 1.2x.prc that is tacked on at the end of the appropriate address & I got 404 Not Found errors.

Please email me at my seekerXXX email w/the proper info, or post here the proper filename.

I tried name.site.whatever etc. & put apt1.2x.prc & got above errors, or maybe someone can jump in here & point me in the right direction, I've got the underlying info, just need the part that I am missing…

But this is only an attempt to address the disabling caused when the device
wakes up out of a sleep, it will have no effect whatsoever on other causes of disabling.

I am fixing bugs at the moment, and will be having another go at other disable causes too (though I'm off on vacation again soon). I also downloaded the Centro simulator today.

Pent, thanks for reply & wonderful news that you got the Centro-lator, er, um, simulator …..

However, no blessing on the url you mentioned above. I have that original email & tried all of my browsers, & I keep getting those 404 errors :< maybe if you can spare the time, you could email me at my seekerXXX registration email, the gmail one.

I wish you good results & luck on the Centro side of things. I will certainly look for all opportunities to respectfully guide people to Apt as an answer to their needs…. & I wish you the same level of relaxation from your upcoming vacation that will be in contradistinction to the amount of hard work you put in…

Thanks to Chastreo's mention of REM sleep:

- I could reproduce the disabling on my Tx with Aeroplayer's REM sleep mode
- it led me finally to a document that actually described the sleep/wake cycle in full.
- I could fix the Rem sleep problem for my Tx, I expect it will also help with other power-off disabling problems
and on other devices

I've taken down 1.2x, I can see that it will not work, and will test the new code on the various simulators.
