Using Screen taps to simulate the Stylus

Pent,

I have a program, Dynamic Mileage, it does not use the 5 way navigator. A trial can be downloaded here: http://www.webmasteris.com/PalmOS/Mileage.htm
I set up the navigator to replicate screen taps where the navigation buttons are on the screen. It will not initialize the direction arrows. If I manually tap on
one of them with the stylus than the Navigator will keep it moving in that direction but won't go any other direction until I tap on that direction arrow with the stylus.

Here are my settings:
0/NavD/Pen/Tap/95,115
0/NavU/Pen/Tap/85,115
0/NavL/Pen/Tap/65,115
0/NavR/Pen/Tap/75,115
1/Cntr/Apt/Gpnt

Any Thoughts?

Just a related parallel comment. If the app doesn't have native 5way support, it just might not work well w/Apt. 5way has been around for a lot of years.

Nothing to do w/how you set things up. I'm testing other stuff, so I can't play w/what you posted.

Yeah I've talked to the developer; he isn't moving forward with development because of the Palm OS changes.
Makes no sense to me they say most apps will be compatible. There are millions of Palm devices out there and
as you say the 5 way has been around a long time. He said everything is there it just needs to be hooked up.
I tried everey mileage tracking software I could find, this is the closest thing to what I wanted.

When I figured out I could emulate pen taps I thought I had it. Then I found the article on the wiki about how it
may not work with every app. Oh Well.

For buttons, it's usually best to tap them directly:

NavL/Ctrl/Tap/XXXX

Use AptMenu:LCtrl to get the resource ID.

Other possibilities to investigate are: menu item Ctrl/Menu/xxxx, command bar shortcut Pen/Cmd/x
or direct key press (for keyboard devices) Pen/Txt.

You would have to take a look at the app to see how it works.
When I use the LCtrl it shows two items, neither of which is the direction controls.
They are both in the Menu row.

When I use Getcoords it says I tapped "Inside Object Gadget 1001".
However it says that for all the buttons so I can't isolate 1 of them this way.

Yes, I downloaded and had a look. Seems most of the app is a 'gadget' so the app deals with all the interactions itself rather than using standard
palmos operations and controls (which is what Apt works with). Bit of an odd way to write an app, makes it very opaque.

Regarding simulating pen taps: Apt adds pen up/pen down events as if the pen had been tapped on the screen. Unfortunately some controls actually scan the hardware, so this method doesn't always work.
