Datebook button: different function in different apps?
Anonymous (141.47.125.x) 1213544802|%e %b %Y, %H:%M %Z|agohover

Hello,

when i got word of Apt, i immediately thought about a thing that i would like very much!
Its all about the Datebook button:

By default i use the builtin datebook for its nice month and week overview and its speed. But i also use Agendus, and other peolpe are avid users of Datebk.

So i would like to be able to have the following setup:

  • when not in Datebook or Agendus: db button launches Datebook, long press launches Agendus (or datebk for its fans)
  • when in Datebook: the button changes views, like it does by default
  • when in Agendus: the button also changes views, like configured in the Agendus preferences.
  • optionally: when in one of those apps: long press of the button switches to the other app (Datebook/Agendus)

I tried with the lite version, and wasnt able to get this working. Switching to the other app worked, but changing views didnt. This is not very productive, it switches the app every time :-))

Is there any way to get it workig like this?
many thanks in advance!!

s.

To achieve what you want in your 4 button points, do the following:

Leave the native prefs application button setting for 2nd h/w button on Datebook. Then in Apt, under the *default* heading & the (Apt) Prefs section put:
2 (for 2 seconds of hold time on) Hrd2 (2nd h/w button) Apps Agendus/Datebk6

I don't use native datebook, but if button presses change the view, then it will continue to do so. That is how Datebook app is written (or not)
Same thing w/Agendus/Datebk6, I use Datebk6 & additional presses of the 2nd h/w within datebk6 _will_ toggle fm day -> week -> month views

For the last one, just leave the status quo of _my_ 1st point. Wherever you are, the native Prefs assignment of Datebook to the 2nd h/w button will give you Datebook after press & release and the 2 Hrd2 Apps Agendus under *default* will always give you Agendus when you hold down the 2nd h/w button for 2 seconds (could be 1,2, or 3, just not press & release, that'll give you Datebook).

This should be the easiest way to achieve what you want.

Good luck & be sure to read the stuff along the top of this (wiki) page as it constitutes the documentation, the stuff along the left border is examples, tutorials, etc.

  • when not in Datebook or Agendus: db button launches Datebook, long press launches Agendus (or datebk for its fans)

In *Defaults*

0/Hrd1/Datebook
1/Hrd1/Agendus

  • when in Datebook: the button changes views, like it does by default

In Databook profile:

0/Hrd1/-

  • when in Agendus: the button also changes views, like configured in the Agendus preferences.

In Agendus profile:

0/Hrd1/-

  • Optionally: when in one of those apps: long press of the button switches to the other app (Datebook/Agendus)

That is more complicated (need to use variables) but possible.

hello,

well, i tried the suggestions on my treo680, and did also some experiments, but the thing in complete just doesnt want to work….

i think its agendus which doesnt want to do anything. it only changes its views if it is startet by the same button, and then it is not run directly but as "Agendus Btn2". Very mysteriuous….

but the setup i now have gets me at least a little of the wanted functionality:

  • palm preferences setting to datebook for button 2
  • default profile:

2/Hrd2/App/Agendus

  • Agendus profile:

2/Hrd2/App/Kalender
0/Hrd2/Pen/Cbar 7 for the week grid
../oHrd2/Pen/Txt/1 for the day view

  • no datebook profile: the button is associated to datebook, it only seems to work this way for switching views.

ok, its a workaround, but it gets me to agendus when in datebook, and i can switch views more or less in both apps….

many thanks,

greetings s.
